The Director-General TVET Authority Dr Kipkirui Langat today graced the inaugural Kabete National Polytechnic Meritorious Awards held at Boma Hotel, Nairobi.

Dr Kipkirui, who was the Chief Guest presented awards to trainers and staff who had performed exemplary in their respective areas.

The Director-General appreciated the Council and Management on the National Polytechnic for conceiving the idea of rewarding staff who have excelled, noting that it’s the first of its kind in the TVET providers sub-sector.

He encouraged the management and staff to embrace teamwork and endeavour to produce the highly skilled manpower needed in the job market.

“As as a National Polytechnic you should identify some niche areas in the TVET landscape and focus and turn it into a highly specialized level in TVET. Plans are underway to establish incubation centres in each of the National Polytechnic,” he said.

The DG reiterated that the Government is focused on TVET reforms because the sector provides training opportunities for over 80% of the graduates of basic education.

He advised the Council and the management to make the award an annual event to enhance staff motivation and excellence.

 

Present during the occasion were Chairperson of the Council Prof. Elijah Omwenga, Council member Prof. Henry Embeywa from Machakos University and the Chief Principal Mr Okumu JW Ongachi.
