Director-General TVET- Authority (TVETA) Dr. Kipkirui Langat today attended the Young Africa Works – Kenya, an initiative by Mastercard Foundation that aims to solve unemployment in the country.
The TVET program which is a public-private partnership between the Mastercard foundation, the private sector, and the Government of Kenya, was launched today at Serena Hotel. The function brought together public and private agencies that share the same objective; to solve unemployment in the country through training and acquisition of skills.
Kenya’s unemployment rate is 9.31% of the country’s population, the majority being youth between the ages of 24-35 years.
The program will be funded by Mastercard Foundation and implemented by Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and other partners.
CICan is a Canadian voluntary membership organization consisting of publicly supported colleges, institutes, and polytechnics in Canada and across the world that champion innovations, applied research, global development, and employment or entrepreneurial opportunities that are created by its member institutions and partners all over the world.
The project aims at;
- Building the capacity of TVET institutions to deliver high quality CBET courses linked to the labour market demands.
- Building the capacity of TVET trainers to be competent to use CBET methods to deliver up-to date curricula
- Creating pathways from unemployment through training to work
In attendance was the CAS nominee Mr. Kinuthia, the outgoing PS State Department of VTT Dr. Kevit Desai, the PS State Department of Post Training and Skills Development Mr. Cheruiyot and the CEO HELB Mr. Charles Ringera.
