The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA), in collaboration with the Institute of Commercial Management (ICM), has today commenced a two-day Curriculum Alignment and Standardisation Workshop aimed at validating ICM qualifications for alignment with the Kenya National Qualifications Authority framework at Levels 4, 5, and 6.

The workshop brings together selected trainers and curriculum experts from TVET institutions across the country to ensure that the qualifications meet the requirements of the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF) for recognition, quality assurance, and standardisation.

Speaking during the opening session at a Nairobi Hotel, Director General Timothy Nyongesa Katiambo said there is need for examination bodies and training institutions to comply with the TVETA Act and offer qualifications, which are recognized and accredited by the Authority.

Amy Matthews, Head of Compliance and Quality Standards at ICM, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to align its qualifications with TVETA standards and KNQF. She commended TVETA for its continued leadership in promoting quality and globally competitive TVET education.

The workshop is reviewing ICM’s competency-based qualifications in key areas, including:
• Hairdressing and Beauty (Cosmetology)
• Interior Design
• Hospitality
• Event Management
• Film and Television Production
The ICM delegation also includes Kevin Kanisio Osundwa, Regional Director for Africa and Bernice Okuku, the Business Development and Delivery Coordinator, Kenya.
The TVETA team is led by Alfred Mwanzia (Accreditation) and Peris Njoroge (Standards Development).

This engagement underscores TVETA’s commitment to strengthening quality assurance, harmonising qualifications, and ensuring that TVET programmes remain relevant, standardized, and responsive to industry needs.
