The 2024/2025 audit exercise covered 354 TVET institutions across 29 counties, comprising 15 National Polytechnics, 41 Public Technical and Vocational Colleges, 95 Private Technical and Vocational Colleges, and 203 Vocational Training Centres (VTCs). The audit assessed compliance with quality standards, institutional governance, training resources, programme delivery, and overall readiness to provide quality and industry-responsive training.

Led by Board Chairperson Prof. Kellen Kiambati, the TVETA delegation began the engagement by visiting Mselia Vocational Training Centre and Mlambenyi Vocational Training Centre, where they assessed infrastructure, training facilities, and institutional capacity. The team was accompanied by Taita Taveta County Director of Vocational Training Raphael Chola. A presentation of the county audit findings was made by Deputy Director, Compliance and Enforcement, Dr. Paul Wanyeki and officer Dan Kiragu, highlighting areas of strength as well as opportunities for improvement across VTCs in the county. The report showed encouraging progress, while also identifying critical areas requiring intervention to enhance training quality and learner outcomes.

The Deputy Governor welcomed the initiative and commended TVETA for choosing Taita Taveta County as the host of the national dissemination exercise. She pledged the County Government’s commitment to implementing the recommendations contained in the report and strengthening support for vocational training institutions across the county.

The delegation also paid a courtesy call on Taita Taveta County Commissioner Linda Okola and acknowledged the critical role played by National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) in supporting the TVET sector through youth mobilization, public awareness, compliance support, and enforcement activities. The County Commissioner reaffirmed her commitment to working closely with TVETA under the One Government Approach to advance skills development and youth empowerment.

The day concluded with an extensive consultative meeting bringing together managers of all 31 Vocational Training Centres in Taita Taveta County. TVETA and County Government officials committed to addressing the concerns raised and enhancing support through increased investment, improved infrastructure, and recruitment of additional trainers.
