The Acting Director General of the TVET Authority, Mr. Timothy Nyongesa Katiambo, today hosted a delegation from the International Labour Organization (ILO) during a courtesy call held at the Authority’s offices. He was joined by senior members of staff.
The ILO delegation, led by Ms. Caroline Njuki, Chief Technical Officer for the ILO PROSPECTS Programme, engaged the Authority in discussions reflecting on the strong and impactful collaboration between ILO and TVETA in advancing skills development in Kenya, while also exploring areas for future partnership.Through this collaboration, ILO has supported TVETA in developing key regulatory standards and implementation tools that have significantly enhanced quality in the TVET sector.
These include the CBET Standard, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Standard, Centres of Excellence Standard, CBET Assessment Standard, Industrial Attachment and Dual Training frameworks, as well as the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Standard, among others.
Ms Njuki reaffirmed ILO’s commitment to continued collaboration with TVETA, particularly in integrating sustainability and circular economy principles into the CBET curriculum. She also emphasized the importance of strengthening data management systems within the TVET sector, including the need to archive trainee data, track programmes undertaken, and conduct tracer studies on graduates.
“We are proud to be associated with the TVET Authority and look forward to deepening our collaboration, particularly in developing standards that integrate emerging areas such as the green economy, sustainability, and digitalisation,” she noted.
Mr Nyongesa appreciated ILO’s continued support, acknowledging its critical role in enabling TVETA to deliver on its mandate. He reiterated the Authority’s commitment to strengthening the partnership to further streamline the TVET sector through standards development and enhanced quality assurance.
Other members of the ILO delegation included Ms. Nuran Torun Atis and Mr. Stephen Mwangi.
