The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) has today signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the European Committee for Training and Agriculture to implement a project aimed at promoting inclusive education and employment opportunities for young persons with disabilities.

The agreement, anchored on the project “Educational and Work Inclusion for Young Students with Disabilities,” seeks to strengthen the rights and opportunities of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) by enhancing their access to vocational training and employment opportunities in Nairobi County, Murang’a County, and Makueni County.

The MoA was signed at TVETA offices by the Acting Director General, Timothy Nyongesa Katiambo, and Gabriele Covi, Regional Coordinator of CEFA for Kenya and Somalia.

Through the partnership, the project will work towards strengthening public Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) to enhance the participation of persons with disabilities in decision-making processes, while also supporting advocacy initiatives through collaboration with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) and media engagement at both community and national levels.

The initiative will also support the development of a network of nine fully inclusive VTCs through multi-sectoral interventions, including the removal of architectural barriers, provision of inclusive learning materials, enhancement of psychosocial support services, and mainstreaming of disability inclusion within training institutions.

In addition, the project will promote access to employment through the establishment of career guidance services, facilitation of internships and work placements, entrepreneurship support programmes, and increased awareness within the private sector on disability inclusion.

Also present during the signing were Irene Scyvrpa from CEFA. The TVETA team included Mary Munyi, James Momanyi, Noah Koech, and Andrew Too.
