The Acting Director General of the TVET Authority, Mr. Timothy Nyongesa Katiambo, yesterday welcomed a delegation from the County Government of Machakos at the Authority’s offices for a high-level engagement on strengthening Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) in the county.
This meeting builds on an earlier engagement held in June 2025, when members of the TVETA Board and management paid a courtesy call on H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti to present findings from a comprehensive quality audit of county VTCs. Following that engagement, a joint Technical Committee was established, bringing together experts from both TVETA and the County Government. The committee has since been focusing on four key areas of collaboration:
- Accreditation of VTCs
- Licensing of trainers
- Capacity building for internal Quality Assurance Officers
- Institutional support to ensure compliance with TVETA standards
During yesterday’s discussions, both teams reviewed progress and agreed on actionable recommendations that will be presented to Governor Ndeti for consideration and implementation.
The Machakos County delegation was led by Dr. Juliana Wambua, Chief Officer for Vocational and Skills Training, accompanied by Mr. Philip Mbatha (Director of Vocational Training), Ms. Agnes Ndanu, Ms. Rachael Ndivo, Mr. Leon Ogola, Mr. Simon Ireri, and Mr. Onesmus Mutua.
The TVETA team included Ms. Phoebe Makanga, Ms. Mary Munyi, Mr. Duncan Nyaega, Mr. Andrew Too, and Mr. Eugene Jabuya.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to fostering strong partnerships with county governments to improve access, enhance quality, and strengthen compliance in technical and vocational education across Kenya.
